Weligama Bay, Diver's Sea Map |
Some attraction Spots in The Bay of Weligama.
1) PRINCE HIENRICH PATCH - ( 30Min Boating Time & 20M Depth)
This is indeed a place fit for
a prince. Known as the Prince Heinrichs Patch (PHP) in the maritime charts of
Sri Lanka this dive site is situated just South East of Weligama Bay area. It is a
fantastic rock scape of interesting shapes harboring even more interesting and
sometimes stunning marine life! Mantas are seen now and then against the deep
blue and also large rays. Pancake, as affectionately
known by the dive community there, is one extremely large Bull Ray (Marble Ray) inhabiting the patch. It can
be approached very closely and maintains a sense of imperious dignity in the
face of curious glances. The site is inundated with Giant Morays, Yellow Margin
Morays and Honeycomb Moray Eels. You will also find a small
anchor encrusted against the rocks. It seems to be of colonial origin, a
smaller version of the anchor we found at Galu Gala off the Galle Harbor
2) BRIDGE ROCK - (20Min Boating Time & 20M Depth)
A great dive site with fun swim through's and little caves! Has loads of various kinds of Nudibranchs and Sea Slugs. Also Lionfish, Giant Pufferfish and other reef fish can be seen among the rocky hideouts. One cave beneath the rocks are full of Sweepers (Glassfish) and small Barracuda. For those who yearn for Nudibranchs, you are sure to find various species among the rocks if you look carefully.
3) YALA ROCK - ( 25Min Boating Time & 18M Depth)
Yala Rock is a multi level rock mountain with a majestic appearance. Standing alone and tall in a patch of rocky boulders this site is prone to constant surge like most of the dive sites off Weligama Bay. The dive generally starts at about 15 meters and one can circle the rock exploring various formations while ascending over the surface of the rock. At the the surge is more severe but also the fish life is more. The sensation of ascending over the mountain is a truly unique experience specially during days of good visibility.
Hi. I just stumbled on this page.. and I'm shocked to see your pictures!! you advertise yourselfe as Scuba Instructors but post pics about where you hold and plague aquatic animals!!!!!!!! That is sooo wrong, you should feel ashamed of yourselfe!! Seems like you don't know anything about marine-life and that you should promote its protection nd not the opposit!!!!!!
